FOR THE BLOCK FOR JUNE LET’S BE A LITTLE MORE “FREESTYLE!”

Make nine half square triangle squares measuring 3.5 " when finished. Use black fabric for half and a brighter color for the other half of each square. Arrange them in any design of three rows of three squares each that you find pleasing to yourself., Sew them together to end up with a 9.5" square.

To make half square triangles, there are several options available. One of my favorites is to take two 4" squares of the different fabrics, place them right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner as a guide. Sew 1/4" away from each side of the line, cut along the line and press open. This will make a square slightly larger but can easily be trimmed to the exact size. This method is good for those of us who have a bit of trouble getting an exact 1/4" seam or whose cutting techniques are still being honed. If you wish to start off with exact measurements, make your squares 3-7/8".

Won’t it be fun to see how many different designs we end up with?

The more you make, the more chances you’ll get to win them all.
