2013 Retreat

Our 2013 Retreat was held at Retreat and Conference Center at Bon Secours in Marriottsville, MD. January 18-20. From Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon, we sewed in a bright sunny room. Thirty three energetic quilters arrived on Friday afternoon, weighed down with suitcases, sewing machines and project boxes, eager to greet old friends and meet new ones. Machines hummed all weekend as project after project was finished and admired.

Our friends, Cassie and Ericka, from Downtown Massage provided wonderful and relaxing chair and table massages on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Luckily the weekend weather was cooperative and a number of us took breaks to walk outside or use the fitness center there.

A couple of challenges added some spice to the weekend. Everyone was encouraged to complete at least one pillowcase for ConKerr Cancer, to be donated to children receiving chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital. We’re thrilled to report that 86 pillowcases were completed by 10 am on Sunday, which was the deadline for a friendly competition to see who could make the most. Congratulations to Pat Vasaio, who completed 25, and to Karen Moss, who completed 16! In addition, we pitched in to make 45 blocks for the 2014 FSQ raffle quilt.

By Sunday everyone was tired, but renewed by the chance to “get away from it all” and enjoy each other’s company. I’m sure many of us are already planning for next year’s Retreat!
