Pennsylvania Dutch Quilts…Folklore & Superstitions
Arlan and Pat Christ live in Berks County, Pennsylvania. Arlan is a tax accountant with his office located in Kutztown, PA. When Pat is not working for Arlan, she can be found in her sewing studio or tending their country gardens. They enjoy traveling to quilt shows and museums which provide the opportunity to examine quilts. Retrieving knowledge to secure the heritage of antique quilts has become the prime objective of The Christ Collection. Their lecture “Pennsylvania Dutch Quilts – Folklore & Superstitions” provides quilts that represent some of the most colorful Pennsylvania quilts made in the mid to late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Their unique designs and quilting patterns have created the “Dutch” folk art that is collected today. Discussion will include the connection of “quilts”, “hex signs” and the world of “folklore and superstitions.”
Wearable Art
Erin Grogan, the pattern designer and founder of Love Sew Modern, will be presenting her lecture on wearable art. People have been finding ways to turn art into fashion for generations. In this lecture we will discuss the evolution of wearable art. There will be a strong focus on how society has recycled quilts for fashion through the decades. During this lecture we will explore different methods of applying our artistic style to our own wardrobe as well.

Pojagi - From Ancient Korea to Modern Canada
Elizabeth will be joining us via Zoom from her home in Ontario, Canada to present her lecture “Pojagi – From Ancient Korea to Modern Canada.” Here is a description of the presentation from her website: “Part lecture and part trunk show, this fun talk tells my journey from Canada to Korea and back again. While in Korea, I studied the ancient art of Pojagi, Korean patchwork. Back in Canada, however, the Korean materials are more difficult to find, so I adapted Pojagi techniques to readily-available western materials with some great results.”

MEETING AT ASBURY METHODIST VILLAGE
Trunk Show, with an emphasis on her “Playful Portraits”
Elizabeth discovered the therapeutic art of quilting in 2018, finding solace in its intricate puzzle of cutting up fabrics and putting them back together. Embracing imperfection, she aspires to share the joy of quilting, focusing on enjoyment of the process rather than rigid perfection. Currently based in the Washington DC suburbs, Elizabeth brings her passion to Capital Quilts and beyond, where her love of quilting intertwines with her professional journey.
She has taught many diverse classes, some of which are Any Size Project Bags, Transform Your Selvages, and Wonky Log Cabin (improv quilts). One of her most popular classes has been Playful Portraits. She uses several different methods to create one-of-a-kind portraits and has been very successful teaching her students to do the same.
Her lecture/trunk show will showcase many of the portrait projects she has created, not just limited to wall art. She will share her process beginning with inspiration to the finished project.
