President’s Message Anne Flaggs
Welcome back to FSQ, I hope you are excited about the upcoming year. We have some wonderful
speakers lined up along with the retreat in February, monthly Service Project meetings and Quilt-o at
our August meeting.
As the incoming president I am learning what is involved with the job and hope you all will be patient
with me as I try to figure out what and when things should happen. I have been in the guild a while
but will admit I don’t often pay full attention to the order of things during the meeting, so I’m sure that
you will correct any mistakes I make.
Just a little bit about me for those of you that don’t know me. I never sewed much until 2009 when I
joined the guild. Outside of that awful dress I had to make in High School, hemming my pants and
sewing on Girl Scout badges, my sewing times were limited. I did like cross-stitching and crewel in
college but then my hand started to hurt so I dropped it. I still don’t sew much and honestly have
been wondering if I would get thrown out of the guild but that hasn’t happened yet. I do enjoy the
retreats and have completed a few baby blankets over the years and recently did some heart quilts
for wedding gifts. I stick with the simple stuff.
I worked as an Accountant/Financial Analyst for 38 years at IBM/Loral/Lockheed Martin/Leidos (it’s
all one company but we were sold or merged a few times) until the last company laid off all the
accounting employees from Lockheed in 2016. I am married and have two daughters and three
grandkids. None of them sew and they all live about an hour away now so I don’t see them as much
as I would like.
We are in need of someone to be our Raffle Quilt Ticket Sales coordinator for this year. If this is
something you are interested in doing for the guild, please let me know. The quilt has been
completed thanks to the persistence of Karen Kehl and others. We plan to have it displayed and will
distribute the raffle tickets to members in September. The raffle quilt is one of our major fundraisers
for the year so we hope that many members will participate in the ticket selling.
The next Executive Board Meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. on August 14th on Zoom. Please let one
of the officers know, if you would like to attend or have a topic to discuss.
