President’s Message Judy Hoffman
I hope you all had many chances to let your family and friends know how thankful you are that they
are in your life. Now we look forward to more celebrating for the next month or so.
If you have been busy with quilting projects remember that our FSQ quilt “Sunshine and Roses” is
finished and already visiting a number of guilds. If you have not returned your raffle tickets to
Jennifer Rossmere please keep in mind that you must play to win.
Speaking of Jennifer, here is her “How I got to quilting and FSQ”:
How I Got Into Quilting by Jennifer Rossmere
It was 1982. I had just purchased my own home. I bought a queen-sized bed and then wanted to
make a quilt to cover it. I had done some sewing in Home Ec but that was it.
A good friend of the family was a quilter and she became my mentor. She sent me two books and I
asked her lots of questions. She suggested I start with something smaller but since my goal was for
something for my new bed, I didn’t listen. I did do a sample block and then started on the quilt
using cardboard templates and scissors.
After taking a one-night class on how to hand quilt, I was on my way. I finished the queen-sized
quilt with my hand quilting getting a lot better as I progressed. That quilt was used for many years.
I was hooked, though I didn’t get a lot of time to quilt while I was working. Once I retired, I took a
complete quilting class at Capital Quilts which was very helpful. I also joined FSQ for the informative
presentations and I gained a wonderfully warm community of quilters.
