President’s Message Karen Kehl
Hello Quilters!
As you have probably heard by now, Judy Hoffman has stepped down from her role as Friendship
Star Quilt Guild (FSQ) President due to health issues. I am sure you all join me in sincere
appreciation for Judy’s willingness to serve and her work for our guild. I will be trying to fill her shoes
through this guild year. This does leave a considerable gap, and we are asking for volunteers for a
nominating committee to start working by the end of February. I know that many of you are busy with
preparing for the April Quilt Show, but this is an urgent, and short-term need. If you are willing to be
on the nominating committee (or to run for either President or Vice-President), please contact me
either via e-mail or phone.
February is a great month for quilting. The weather is colder, and we tend to spend more time at
home. I am starting a couple of big quilts this month. I am finishing up some small projects –
placemats and table runners – for the FSQ boutique at the April Quilt Show. Of course, I am using a
lot of bright colors to counteract the colder weather. I hope you all have some great time to quilt, and
to enjoy the fruits of your labor while sleeping or snuggling under some wonderful quilts!
Do start thinking about which quilt or quilts you are going to enter into the Quilt Show. Registration
will open in February.
I strongly encourage you to submit at least one quilt. There is something really special about seeing
your quilt hanging among so many beautiful pieces. When I joined the guild in January 2017, I was
in awe of the talent and skills of the many members of FSQ. I heard about the Quilt Show, but I didn’t
think anything I made would be appropriate. But there were several FSQ members that encouraged
me to find something to submit, anything that had been made in the past two years. I gathered up
my courage and decided to submit the wedding quilt that I made for my son and daughter-in-law in
2015 (after I got their permission). I got great feedback on my quilt, enjoyed getting to know more
FSQ members through volunteering at the show, gained confidence in my quilting abilities, and had
a LOT of fun!
