President’s Message
Anne Flaggs
Hello Quilters,
I can’t believe I have been president for a year, time certainly does fly by these days
and it’s almost summer.
As our year comes to a close, I’m thinking about some of the accomplishments/changes that
occurred this year:
- After a few months of thinking about it, we held our first hybrid meeting in May with 19 members on-line. The sound could use some improvement and we have some other tweaks to make but we plan to offer the zoom meeting option to our in person meetings whenever we have a speaker. Look for the next one in September.
We changed the 2023-2024 raffle quilt ticket price to reduce the # of tickets sold but keep the
same income (3 tickets for $5 vs. 6 tickets for $5). - Reduced the number of books in the library and sold off the older books in the spring for a
very discounted price. These books were all old and had not been loaned out in years. - We created the 2024-2025 raffle quilt with many members helping Karen Kehl to cut and sew
the blocks of this beautiful rainbow quilt. The quilt is almost done and we will start selling
raffle tickets in the fall. - We had an ad hoc committee created to review the Treasurer’s duties and they also proposed
to update the bylaws to increase the term limit for officers and add in language in case we
decide to file for a 501c3 designation (we are currently a 501c4). Their proposed updates to
the bylaws were approved at our April meeting. - We had wonderful programs that kept us all engaged each month.
- We donated lots of quilts and things through Service projects.
Opportunities:
- It’s time to renew your Membership. You can pay with cash, check or credit card before
meeting, cost is still $35. - Don’t forget to participate in the yard sale at the June meeting; great prices on great fabric,
check the Signup Genius if you are able to volunteer to help. Invite your friends to come – we
want to sell this stuff. - Remember to turn in your raffle quilt ticket money and stubs to Karen Moss before the
meeting. A portion of the proceeds from this raffle quilt will be donated to A Wider Circle. - Service Projects has a few in person meetings over the summer, stop by; help out and catch
up with other FSQ members. - Work on Summer Log Jam Challenge (due in October) for Service Projects.
- Think about joining the 2025 Quilt Show committee, more info in the summer and fall but let
me or Trish McTighe know if you have any ideas for improvement or if you have any
questions. - The 2025-2026 Raffle Quilt needs a team to coordinate the creation of our next raffle
quilt. Maybe a mini-group would like to work on this or just a small group of friends. It could
be a simple or complex design but it helps if it’s eye-catching. Let me know if you are
interested or have some ideas. It takes a while to pull this together so we typically start in the
fall.
Our June meeting will be short but we do have a few items to discuss in the business meeting
portion before we are released to the yard sale. Elections of the officers for the 2024-2025 year will
be held; thank all the board and committee volunteers; the 2023-2024 Raffle Quilt winner will be
drawn and probably a few other announcements.
The next Executive Board meeting is on Monday, June 10th on Zoom at 7pm. Please let me or
another officer know if you are interested in attending.
That’s all from me. See you at the meeting and have a great summer.
Anne
