President’s Message
Anne Flaggs
Hello Quilters,
I hope you have been enjoying February with a few cold days, some snow and some warmer days at
the end of the month. I enjoyed the retreat with 30 of our members, several of whom were first
timers. We all had a fabulous time and enjoyed the snowstorm that created a winter wonderland
outside our windows. I’m looking forward to next year’s retreat in February 2025.
I also wanted to mention that we had hoped to have a hybrid meeting (both in person and on zoom
for those that are not able to travel to meetings) in March but we haven’t had a chance to thoroughly
test out the process so the March meeting will only be in person. We will try to have this going for
April so we can include all our members in our meetings.
Some news from the executive board meeting:
We need another membership chair, Charlene Danka is moving and Lynn Stieber would like
some help checking everyone in before the meetings. This is a great way to get to know the
members of the guild, please let Charlene and Lynn know if you are interested.
We reviewed the by-law changes outlined in this (month’s issue of The) Quiltline and emailed to all current
members. Per the by-laws we need a 30-day notice to members before making a change so
please review these changes and let us know if you have any issues. We will vote at the
April meeting on these changes.
We discussed the 2025 Quilt Show but we still need some folks to help chair this
committee. The current plan is a show April 25-27 and the place is still TBD. Please
consider helping to make this happen.
Liz Brigham asked about moving our meeting time earlier than 7:30 pm. We discussed this at
the board meeting but ultimately decided that since we are an inclusive guild with members
that work (in and out of the home) and members that are retired that we need to keep our time
at 7:30 pm to allow the members who are traveling from work or a longer distance time to
arrive. An earlier start time would also negatively affect our dinner with a speaker. We do
start gathering for meetings at 7:00 pm with the various committees set up in the lobby before
the business meeting starts at 7:30 pm. This topic has come up in the past and will come up
again in the future. It is a valid concern and should be revisited periodically to ensure we are
doing the right thing for our membership.
Some reminders for the meeting:
The 2025 Raffle blocks are due to Karen Kehl.
The AQS Challenge, Food for Thought, quilts are due to Michelle Barnard.
Bring your 2024 raffle ticket stubs and money and pick up more. Karen Moss is coordinating
the ticket sales.
Volunteer opportunities; please consider helping the guild:
2025 Quilt Show Chair(s)
Membership chair assistant
Program volunteer to organize speaker dinners
Nominating committee – our elections will be in June to vote in next year’s officers but
we need a committee to find the nominees. I will discuss this a bit more at the
meeting.
See you at the meeting.
Anne
